Haiti - Social : 228th anniversary of the «Cérémonie du Bois Caïman»

This Wednesday, August 14 as part of the 228th anniversary of "The Ceremony of Bois-Caiman" (August 14, 1791) considered as the founding act of the revolution and the war of independence, the former Consul General of Haiti in Chicago Lesly Condé has delivered a reflection message that we invite you to read :

Message from Lesly Condé :

"Dear compatriots,

Today, I would like to draw your attention to the great importance of the event we are commemorating this Wednesday, 14 August. In a world where one claims to venerate the ideals of justice and freedom, this large-scale Congress that the history books (August 14, 1791) tell us under the name of Ceremony of the Wood Caiman (Cérémonie du Bois Caïman) or 'Seremoni Bwa Kay Imam' should be celebrated everywhere without any reservations, and our ancestors glorified for their extraordinary courage.

History, as we have learned, places much emphasis on the religious or mystical aspect of this powerful gathering that we have learned, without question, to call the 'Cérémonie du Bois Caïman'. Today, we know that Bookman, the great architect of this gathering, was a Muslim and that he chose to live and die as a free man. No matter what name you choose to give to this extraordinary moment in our history, we must all be proud of it."
