Haiti - Social : Speculation on fuels continues in Petit-Goâve

In Petit-Goâve, fuel continues to be bought and stored by individuals in order to artificially create scarcity and thus prolong the lucrative black market locally, where the precious liquid is sold at more than twice the legal price...

Friday night, Taxi-motorcycle drivers have strongly denounced the complicity of the fuel pump at the level of the sale of fuel. Stressing that despite the fact that tanker trucks have twice fueled petrol stations, they still can not get fuel, pointing fingers at priority individuals, who leave with big cans filled with the precious liquid.

They blame petrol stations for colluding and promoting and selling to the accomplices the fuels used to supply the black market, while honest citizens who refuse to queue, jostle and fight sometimes, to try to get a little fuel at the right price.

The Petit-Goâviens urge the Commissioner of the Government Me Fourgy, to intervene without delay by strictly enforcing the law of 20 December 1946 on the black market or illegal speculation, which punishes a fine of 500 gourdes to 100,000 gourdes "[...] the acquisition, sale, transfer, exchange of goods over - above the price fixed by the authorities concerned as well as any stowage or refusal of sale outside the forms prescribed by the legal provisions."
