Major General Estanislao Gonell Regalado, Commander of the Dominican Army, said that in coordination with the Navy, the Air Force and the Specialized Corps of Land Border Security (CESFRONT), security all along the border had been reinforced Monday, on the orders of the Ministry of Defense, following the latest violent events in Port-au-Prince and various cities of Haiti.

He said the armed forces have used drones, cameras, planes, helicopters and all-terrain vehicles to provide surveillance and ground control of the border area.

For its part, the Dominican Navy has strengthened its presence on the coasts of Manzanillo and Pedernales while the Air Force has monitored the border on the Dominican side with several helicopters and planes.

Finally, the CESFRONT has increased the number of soldiers at checkpoints and border posts, to prevent the entry of people fleeing violence in Haiti."
