Bocchit Edmond, acting Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries condemns the loss of life, as well as the acts of banditry perpetrated against public and private infrastructures in general and in the tourism sector in particular which only aggravate the conditions of already extremely precarious life of the population.

He pointed out that the tourism sector, which was hard hit economically by the crisis, is reporting significant material damage and the loss of thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

In recent weeks, hotels and other tourist establishments have been attacked or vandalized, causing very heavy economic losses. Minister Edmond recalls that the closure of some hotels caused by socio-political unrest including the final of the 5-star hotel "Best Western Premier" in Pétion-ville https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29066-haiti-flash-the-5-stars-best-western-hotel-victim-of-the-crisis-announces-its-final-closure.html sends a very bad signal to potential investors, both Haitians and foreigners, at a time or the country needs hundreds of thousands of jobs.

The Minister, while recognizing the fundamental right of every citizen to exercise their civil and political rights in public spaces in accordance with the law, urges every citizen to be equally sensitive to those who also have the right to preserve their property, exercise their trades and earn their daily bread.

Bocchit Edmond remains convinced that "the profound change we all want is through harmony, dialogue and citizen solidarity. As part of an inclusive development policy."

He recalls that the tourism industry is one of the integrated economic pillars that can allow Haiti to attract investment and create tens of thousands of jobs while stating that only a calm climate and inter-Haitian undialogue in a spirit civic, fraternal and patriotically supportive of "living together" is likely to lead to economic, political and social recovery, faced with the considerable challenges facing our beloved homeland.

With regard to the tourist sector agonizing in total indifference, one can wonder after having reduced to nothing, all the human and financial efforts of recent years to put Haiti on the map of world tourism, how long will take to rebuild a positive image of the destination in the eyes of the world and restore confidence to tourists and investors...
