Haiti - Social : Police will take streets this Sunday

Saturday, while the Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) 48 hours before the commemoration of the 216th anniversary of the battle of Vertières (Monday, November 18), asked the police offciers to remain in their quarter, the Coordination of the movement of Protest within the PNH confirmed that it maintained the peaceful march scheduled for this Sunday, 17 November.

In a correspondence, the Departmental Director of the West, Godson Jeune asked officials to submit a list of all police officers who respected the cantonment order. Recall that the regulations of general discipline of the PNH that the police officers sign at the time of their integration, forbid the agents to demonstrate or participate in demonstrations under pain of sanction...

For the Coordination of the Movement of Claims, this order is intended rather to prevent the legitimate demands of police officers, who demand, among other things, better working conditions, a better salary, the right to organize, as well as health insurance...

Recall that on October 27, a peaceful march of a few hundred police officers (most in plain clothes) took the concrete, accompanied by many members of their family, alongside the opposition https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29116-haiti-flash-demonstrations-more-and-more-violent.html . A march that had not received the approval of the high command as it is still the case this Sunday.

On October 27, President Jovenel Moïse attended a National Police Superior Council (CSPN) expanded to the National Palace https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29129-haiti-security-superior-council-of-the-national-police-this-weekend.html during which the president of the CSPN, the resigning Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin, about the claims of the police offciers had declared "In the short term, we work on the bailout of the cards [debit] police officers ... Police officers should note that some problems can be solved in the days that follow, but others require the state to have financial resources ... We will set up a Commission on question of wages which will have the mission to see what answers can be brought to this problem [...] ".
