Tuesday at the Hotel Montana, Josué Agénor Cadet, the Minister a.i of the Interior and the Territorial Collectivities, accompanied among others by Jean Roudy Aly, Minister a.i of the Planning Joseph Joute, Minister a.i of the Economy, of Amos Zéphirin Director General of the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities took part in the launching of the Intersectoral Support Project for the "Effective Management of State Resources" (GERÉ), in the presence of the main representatives of the Federations and Associations of Mayors, members of the private sector and international partners, including US Ambassador to Haiti Michèle Jeanne Sison

In his remarks of circumstances, the Minister Cadet underlined the will of the President Jovenel Moïse and his great interest to the reinforcement of the territorial collectivities and the decentralization, in order to respond effectively to the needs of all the citizens. He also welcomed the implementation of the GERÉ project, which is in line with State policy with regard to local authorities, with the main aim of supporting the Government in its efforts to improve the provision of services to local populations.

In his intervention Cadet recalled "The obstacles are large and call for the construction of a real political consensus around new sharing of responsibilities between local authorities and the Central State. It is in this perspective that the Ministry builds its political action around the establishment of modernized territorial communities, strategists, partners and close to the citizen."

In conclusion, he thanked the US Government, which provides funding for this plan to support local authorities, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

It should be noted that the three-year GERÉ Project will benefit a total of 10 municipalities located in the Western, North and South Departments. In addition to leading to better mobilization of local resources, improved management of State resources and local finances, the Project will also need to support increased provision of sustainable public services and more inclusive citizens participation.
