Haiti - Politic : The Dominican Republic intensifies migration control operations

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) announces that in recent days it has carried out migration control operations in 12 provinces and the national district.

During these operations 2,489 people of Haitian origin were arrested and controlled. After verification using biometric readers and the central database of the DGM, 2,034 Haitians (82%) were declared in irregular migration or undocumented migration in Dominican territory : Azua (23), Altagracia Higuey (243) , Espaillat (64), La Romana (93), La Vega (46), Mgr Nouel (141), Montecristi (338), Santiago of Caballeros (138), Santo Domingo (108), Puerto Plata (148), Duarte (99), Valverde (212) and the National District (378).

The migratory teams were composed of inspectors and agents of the DGM with the support of the military, the Dominican National Police and the CESTUR in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned.

The compatriots were taken back to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña respectively to the North and the South, to be registered and deported to Haiti.

Note that the Director General of Migration, Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, has been instructed to intensify migratory control operations to combat the presence of foreigners in irregular migratory situation on Dominican soil, as well as to intervene in all places where the presence of undocumented persons is suspected.

Checks that do not make life easy for our compatriots, as more and more people are looking to flee Haiti every day to seek refuge in the neighboring Republic and face increased surveillance at the border.

Since June 2015 estimated that 440,000 Haitians have been deported or returned to the border
