Haiti - Japan : 12 schools are under construction in the Center and the Artibonite

As part of Haitian-Japanese cooperation in support of school infrastructure in Haiti, 12 schools (90 classrooms in total) are being built in the departments of Center and Artibonite, by the Japanese firm Tokura Corporation. Recall that this project is funded by the Government of Japan to the tune of 20 million US dollars in response to a request from the Haitian Government and to the agreement signed in July 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25013-haiti-education-donation-of-$20m-from-the-japanese-government-to-build-12-schools.html

These are earthquake-resistant and paracyclonic buildings constructed of reinforced concrete that can serve as shelters in the event of natural disasters. The plans have been approved by the Directorate of School Engineering (DGS) and the Ministry of Public Works. All schools will be supplied with drinking water and equipped with solar panels. The aim of this project is to improve the educational conditions of around 3,600 students in these departments, and to strengthen resilience to natural disasters.

Note that Haitian workers who work with Japanese experts on these constructions benefit from a transfer of Japanese techniques of construction of buildings resistant to natural disasters.

These schools are located in Crête-Brûlée, in Grand-Boucan (communal section of Mirebalais), in Cabral (communal section of Thomonde), in La Selle (communal section of Saut-d´Eau). Three schools will be built in Juanaria (communal section of Hinche), one school in Marmont (communal section of Hinche), two schools in Aguahedionde, fourth communal section of Hinche and two others in Désarmes, fourth communal section of Verrettes in Artibonite.

The works are expected to be completed in March 2020.
