Haiti - FLASH : Sabotage at Varreux power plants

The Government condemns the acts of vandalism and sabotage perpetrated by unidentified individuals on the underground infrastructure of Varreux power plants on the night of December 12.

According to the first elements of the investigation in progress, confirmed by the officials of the EDH, the pumping operations of fuels proceeded normally in the morning of Thursday and it was not until Friday that a problem was noted.

After verification and inspection, it was discovered that the pipe leading to the fuel oil at the Varreux power plant had been damaged, the technicians noted saw marks and found a sabotage.

These acts come after the EDH announced the restarting, for the end of this week, of these power stations in order to reduce the rationing of electricity in the metropolitan area.

The Government wishes to inform the population that justice has been set in motion by the competent authorities to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible.

Affirming that "these acts of sabotage and vandalism are intended to harm the proper functioning of the national electricity grid and to prevent the population from having access to this public service."

Furthermore, while recalling the state of progress of the rehabilitation works of Les Cayes and Petit-Goâve power plants, the EDH is working tirelessly to allow the citizens of these regions to have access to electricity.

Eddy Jackson Alexis, Secretary of State for Communication reminds everyone of the obligation to respect public facilities which are common goods and also encourages citizens to exercise patience while waiting for all the circuits of the EDH be functional again...
