Haiti - Environment : Donation of $35M from the WB against climate hazards

The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities, through its Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) and the Ministry's Project Coordination Unit, launched the "Risk Management and Climate Resilience Project" (PGRAC). This Project is financially supported by a grant agreement from the World Bank (WB) to the Haitian State amounting 35 million US dollars and will extend over a period of 5 years and 6 months.

With this project, the government intends to strengthen early warning systems, improve emergency response and evacuation capacities.

The PGRAC also aims to build, renovate or rehabilitate, in certain schools and community centers, extensions called to serve as secure shelters in the event of a disaster. he

This project will also provide technical assistance to strengthen existing building standards and mitigate the effects of climate change on Haiti.

PGRAC will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2020 and will mainly cover the departments of North, North-West, Nippes, South and Grand’Anse.
