Haiti - FLASH : 7 CIMO police officers victims of a road accident

Saturday, December 21, one of the vehicles of the Corps of Intervention and Maintenance of Order (CIMO) which opened the road, in anticipation of the passage of the presidential procession which returned from the inauguration of the new electric micro-network of Tiburon, was the victim of a traffic accident near Sainte Véronique first communal section of Torbeck (South). The vehicle carrying 7 CIMO agents violently struck an electric pole, killing one of the agents, Payen Stanley Bichard of the 28th promotion, and injuring 6 others, including one seriously. Information confirmed by Senior Inspector Gary Desrosiers, Deputy PNH Spokesperson

The wounded have been rushed to the OFATMA hospital in Les Cayes or several of them are in intensive care...

Upon hearing the news, President Moïse said "[…] I was at the Coteaux power station, I was coming back from Tiburon when I got the news. I went immediately to the Ofatma hospital in Les Cayes to be at the bedside of the victims."

President Jovenel Moïse accompanied by Fritz Caillot, the Minister of Public Works, Evenson Calixte, the Director General of the National Authority for the Regulation of the Energy Sector (ANARSE), the engineer Hervé Pierre-Louis Director General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH) and in the presence of several authorities from the South department inaugurated the brand new electric micro-network of Tiburon. With a capacity of 95 Kw, this micro-grid which uses solar energy during the day and a diesel generator at night when necessary. It was the company "Enèji Pwòp" which won the tender to produce, distribute and sell the electricity from this micro-grid in Tiburon.
