Haiti - Politic : Towards the regulation of the practice of sport in Haiti

Friday, January 3 at the Visa Lodge Hotel, with a view to providing the sports sector in Haiti, with strong structures promoting its development, Edwing Charles, the Minister of Youth and Sports, brought together the executives of the Directorates and Technical Units of the Ministry.

During the day was discussed the procedures for the registration and recognition of sports organizations, and the creation of the National Commission for Sports Ethics.

Particular emphasis was placed on :

  • Legal provisions in this area;

  • Consultation between the national high sports authorities and MAST on these files;

  • The privileges arising from recognition;

  • The principles to be established around recognition;

  • The responsibilities and status of sports organizations;

  • The urgency of creating the National Sports Ethics Commission (CONAES);

  • The inclusion of representatives of other bodies in the said commission;

  • The conformity of the creation of CONAES with the legal provisions in force.

"We must set guidelines for a healthy and rational practice of sport, play our regulatory role, protect young athletes, fight against certain drifts that tarnish the image of sport," said Minister Charles asking the directorates concerned to take into account recommendations discussed for validation of documents next week.

This working day enabled the participants to examine technical, institutional and legal questions with a view to better adapting the principles relating to the process of recognition, standardization and support for sports organizations.

The National Commission for Sports Ethics which, after consultation with the "Ethics Commission against Violence, Abuse and Harassment in the Practice of Sport", will allow young Haitian athletes to evolve in an environment that facilitates the expression of their talents while respecting of their rights and their dignity.

Through this initiative, Charles intends to promote the regulation and rationalization of the practice of sport for the benefit of actors due to this sector throughout the national territory.
