Haiti - Taiwan : President Moïse inaugurates a modern seed center in Morne Casse

Friday, January 17, President Jovenel Moïse inaugurated a modern seed center at Morne Casse in the commune of Ferrier (northeast) funded by Taiwan (Republic of China). The ceremony was attended by agronomist Joseph C. Angrand, Minister of Agriculture, Taiwanese Ambassador Bang-Zyh Liu and several regional executives and members of farmers' associations.

This Center, which is equipped with automatic equipment for drying seeds at temperature controlled by computers and a laboratory to test the quality of seeds, is part of a project of 3 Rice seed conditioning centers which are planned in the South, Artibonite and the Northeast "One of the priority objectives of my Administration through these modern seed centers is to create conditions favorable to the increase in national rice production to meet the needs of the population and farmers' associations," said the Head of State.

According to Ambassador Liu, the annual production capacity of the Ferrier Center will be 5,000 tonnes of rice from 2021. President Moïse reiterated his commitments to farmers in these departments, which he strongly encourages to organize into cooperatives to better serve their common interests stating "We will continue to strengthen the irrigation and cleaning of canals, create adequate agricultural infrastructure and facilitate the obtaining of agricultural credits to develop your businesses."

After highlighting the potential of well-maintained irrigated land and the importance of strengthening this sector, in particular through the establishment of the National Bank for Agricultural Development (BNDA), which will open on May 1, 2020 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29740-haiti-news-zapping.html , the Head of State has once again promised the formation of a Government which will respond to the urgent problems of the populations.
