Haiti - Exodus : 243 Haitian boat-people intercepted in 48 hours in the Turks and Caicos Islands

Following the interception of 243 illegal Haitian boat-people in the waters of the Turks and Caicos islands, Governor Nigel Dakin recalled "Illegal migrants do not only buy a passage through dangerous seas but they buy the suppression of all future attempts at legal emigration."

Recall that on January 28 around 22:30 a first boat loaded with illegal migrants was reported by coastal radar operators 6 miles south of the Port of South Dock in Providenciales.

144 migrants from Haiti (110 men and 34 women) aboard a 40 ft (12m) wooden boat were arrested and taken to port aboard the Sea Guardian of the Royal Police, to be handed over between the hands of immigration services.

Two days later, more precisely on January 30, 2020, naval officers from the Turks and Caicos Islands, who were carrying out surveillance near French Cay, intercepted a second boat 6 miles east of French Cay. wooden 36 feet (11m) which transported 99 illegal migrants from Haiti.
