Haiti - Politic : Important bilateral meeting on the development of a prosperous border

Wednesday, February 5, representatives of private sector organizations and representatives of the Government of Haiti and the Dominican Republic met at the CODEVI industrial park located in the free zone of Ounamithe, to continue discussions on the development of a safer system and a prosperous border for both Nations.

This was the third such meeting convened by the United States Government in the past eight months, which was attended by both US ambassadors and State Department staff and officials.

Customs representatives from both countries, the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) also actively participated in the meeting.

The discussion focused on best practices from the private sector to increase transparency and formalize cross-border trade and on improving coordination between the customs and security officials of the two countries.

This initiative is part of broader efforts to increase trade and security along the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Group is committed to continuing its efforts to transform the common border into an engine of economic prosperity for the region.
