Haiti - FLASH : Claim of the police, the Government sets up a Crisis Cell

Faced with protest movements within the National Police of Haiti (PNH), President Jovenel Moïse, announced that a series of urgent measures have been adopted in order to find a definitive solution to the problems posed by the police officers.

To this end, Jean Roudy Aly, the Minister of Justice and Public Security set up on February 20, a crisis unit, composed of 5 members to whom he gave a 48-hour period to provide him with a detailed report on the discussions between the actors with a view to restoring order within the police institution.

Members of the Crisis Cell :

Inspector General Marie Louise Gauthier (General Inspection of the National Police of Haiti)

Divisional Commissioners Bernard Elie (National Police School)

Divisional Commissioners Rigaud Harington (National Police Academy)

Divisional Commissioners Marie Gina Joachim (Superior Council of the National Police)

Me Jean Fallières Bazelais, representative of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security

For his part, the Head of State appealed to all the senior officers of the PNH to establish a viable communication corridor, allowing to improve relations at all levels of the chain of command.

At the same time, Moïse announced the establishment of a preferential rate credit program which will be managed by the National Office of Old Age Insurance (ONA), in order to help the police.

Finally, the Head of State announced that the Government was planning to increase the amount of the allowance paid to the police through the debit card, while explaining that the agents of the PNH must also adopt a behavior to match of their status and their mission to protect and serve the population.
