Haiti - Justice : Pierre Louis Opont, convened to the Prosecutor this Wednesday

Pierre Louis Opont, the Director General of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), confirms having received a convocation from the Prosecutor of Port-au-Prince for this Wednesday, concerning the allegations of corruption and fraud within the CEP following the publication of the results of the second round of legislative elections. Regarding his ban to leave the territory, he said having learned this information via the press and the Commissioner of the Government should provide more information on the nature of this possible ban.

Yesterday Tuesday, the Director General of the CEP has wished to clarify that for him, the results accepted today as reliable and respectful of the popular will, are those that were published under his direction last April 4. Concerning the contested results, he said that these are the decisions of the National Complaints and Challenges Bureau which are not under his direction...

Pierre Louis Opont, intends to provide his full cooperation to the Justice "...I am the Director General of the CEP, thus a litigant, there is a Senate Commission that investigates of the allegations of corruption in the electoral machinery, i'm part of this, so I'm concerned, these are serious allegations. There are public figures who have made ​​accusations openly... It is necessary, first, to review the charges, then launder the CEP and staff if necessary... The reputation of advisers is involved, the reputation of the General Direction is involved, my reputation is important for me, I hope that light will be shed and the responsibility assigned..."

Parallel to this case, Pierre Louis Opont reported that everything is implemented, for the organization of the second round of legislative, to be held next May 29, in the constituencies where the elections on 28 November were disrupted and canceled and where the resumption of the first round, took place on March 20. He added that he had spoken with the candidates, asking them to bring all their contributions, so that these elections take place in an atmosphere of Peace.
