Haiti - NOTICE : Preventive measures against the risk of introduction of Covid-19

Faced with the risk of the introduction of Covid-19 in Haiti, the Ministry of National Education and Professional Training (MENFP), in a circular dated March 9, invites the population in general and educational agents in particular to follow and adopt the preventive measures of the health authorities.

"[...] As part of its action plan, the Ministry places particular emphasis on raising awareness in the educational community, in particular teachers, school directors, students, parents and administrative staff who must contribute to the public communication campaign on this virus for which no treatment to date is yet available worldwide.

In this perspective, the MENFP recommends to all directors of public and non-public schools to set up with teachers a space for exchanging and sharing information of 5 to 10 minutes on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) with students in different courses in order to transmit scientific information to better understand the disease and identify key measures to prevent and limit the spread of this virus.

In this sense, the Ministry makes available to all stakeholders an information text, prepared in concert with the Ministry of Public Health and other partners, on what to know about Coronavirus, the actions who can save and the ministry guidelines.

[...] In the meantime, the Ministry invites everyone to follow these basic tips to avoid, as much as possible, the spread of the epidemic, which is in the form of a respiratory illness, often a common flu :

  • Always cough or sneeze into your sleeves or elbow, never on the other person's face or in your hands;

  • Use tissues to wipe your hands or face and then throw them in the trash;

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap or alcoholic water. You can also use a "sanitizer";

  • Avoid close contact with someone with flu-like illness and invite them to seek treatment;

  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth;

  • Avoid large gatherings as much as possible;

  • Do not panic and keep calm by adopting responsible, life-saving behaviors.

These tips will not protect you 100%. However, respecting them will greatly reduce the risk of contracting or transmitting the disease.

Pierre Josué Agénor CADET

Minister."
