Haiti - FLASH : 2 cases of Covid-19 confirmed in the country

Thursday just before 8:00 pm, President Jovenel Moïse at a press conference announced "According to the latest results of tests carried out at the National Laboratory, we have recorded the first 2 cases of coronavirus in Haiti" without further details on these two cases.

By presidential decree, President Moïse declared a state of health emergency over the entire national territory for a period of one month from Thursday, March 20.

Moïse said, "The country automatically enters phase 2 of the epidemic. Schools, vocational training centers, universities will be closed from Friday.

The State has made all arrangements to close the subcontracting factories starting this Friday.

The Government declares a curfew on the whole extent of the national territory between 8h00 pm and 5h00 am from this Friday [...] and prohibits on the whole extent of the territory meetings and gatherings of more than 10 people [...]"

The Head of State confirmed that as of Thursday evening all ports and airports in the country will be closed until further notice for passenger transportation, adding that the transportation of goods is still allowed.

Other measures are announced in the decree declaring a state of health emergency...
