Haiti - Health : Banks special provision to avoid contagion

The Professional Association of Banks (APB) informs the public and the customers of banks in particular, that in the context of the prevention against the Covid-19 coronavirus, various measures have been taken in order to continue to provide regular banking services while providing maximum protection for customers and bank employees.

In addition to the usual security measures, all customers will be required to go to a hand sanitizer distributor before entering a branch.

Limiting the number of customers inside, respecting a regulatory distance in queues and the use of protective masks by cashiers and account managers are also part of the provisions.

The APB also recommends that anyone with symptoms of flu, coughing, sneezing, fever, etc... to refrain from personally carrying out transactions requiring travel to a bank branch. In an emergency, driver counters are the best places to make a transaction in complete safety.

In order to reduce the handling of banknotes, one of the vectors of transmission of contagious diseases, the APB advises :

  • Wear gloves for counting tickets, disinfect your hands after handling tickets and put them in an envelope during transactions.

  • Use online banking, debit cards at sites where ATMs, points of sale exist, and make transfers through the Haitian payment system (SPIH).

The APB has a contingency plan in case there is an epidemic of Coronavirus Covid-19 on the national territory. A business continuity plan is implemented at each banking institution to facilitate the flow of operations with rotating work teams and a remote work arrangement for certain departments and categories of employees.
