Haiti - FLASH : The United States expels 68 Haitians in the middle of a pandemic

68 Haitians in an irregular migration situation, expelled from the United States arrived Tuesday at Toussaint Louverture International Airport on a Swift Air flight chartered by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which had taken off from Louisiana shortly before 10:00 am.

"I confirm this new deportation of Haitians who were in an irregular situation in the USA. The number could have been higher if there had not been negotiations between the authorities of the two countries [...] The Haitian State in spite of the meager means will welcome its sons with dignity [...]" declared Chancellor Claude Joseph to the media on Tuesday.

He assured that our compatriots returning to the country had no symptoms of Covid-19 stressing that the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration Law Enforcement Agency had carried out medical examinations for each Haitian before their deportation.

According to the protocol in force, in Haiti, these 68 Haitians from an infected country classified red zone, will be quarantined for 14 days and taken care of by the Ministry of Public Health which has already made all the arrangements for this purpose said Chancellor Joseph.
