Haiti - Humanitarian : The Dominicans are helping the Haitian communities at the border

Last Friday, the Dominican Government has provided assistance to dozens of Haitian families living in extreme poverty in communities bordering Haiti. During this humanitarian operation, food rations [rice, beans, oil, sardines, milk, sugar, corn flour and wheat flour doughs] were distributed under applause and demonstrations of joy of the population who thanked the Dominican Government for this assistance.

"At home, we often stayed for several days without eating, because nobody works and there is no money to buy food. I know now that we are going to cook, thanks to the Dominican government" declared full of emotion, Nilatrenne Louis Pierre, one of the beneficiaries of this program.

This food distribution operation, was supervised by the blue helmets of Uruguay, members of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah), which control the city of Ouanaminthe [Haiti].

Paul Alonso, spokesman of the Commission on Human Rights in Ouanaminthe, told reporters in the Dominican town of Dajabon, that this assistance benefited to the Haitians living in villages near the border town where many children are mostly malnourished. Stressing that on other occasions, the Dominican government had conducted medical missions and repaired homes of Haitians in these communities. He informed the journalists, that he remains hopeful that the President michel Martelly manages resources at the international level in order to help increase agricultural production, build irrigation canals, improve the genetic system, both animals and plants, reforestation and ensuring cleanliness in these different villages.
