Haiti - Justice : The Senate Committee of Inquiry continues its hearings

After the appearance last Friday, of electoral advisers, Laurette Croyance and Ribel Pierre, the Senate Committee of Inquiry on corruption and fraud has continued its hearings on Monday with Ginette Cherubin.

On leaving the hearing, the resigned adviser,

who has also resigned, told to the journalists : "We talked a lot about my position that I released, where I explained clearly why I had resigned from the CEP [Provisional Electoral Council] https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-2811-haiti-politic-ginette-cherubin-resigns.html , I had found that there was a lack of fairness, that the things were done in haste and I had also cited cases as examples."

Stating that she had not participated in the National Complaints and Challenges Bureau (BCEN) and she refused to sit at the level of Special BCEN, former adviser has explained she had followed several assizes where lawyers had come with evidence in the form of duplicate "...when a lawyer present a duplicate that shows, for example, the opposite of what is published on the CEP website, for me [the BCEN] should have gone to the Central Tabulation of votes [CTV] to check... There have been cases like that, despite these evidence [...] they have not been verified to the CTV and the judgments were rendered, that's what I call a lack of fairness..."

"We also discussed the prohibition of departure, because with respect to the Conventions, as the American Convention on Human Right, all citizens are entitled to their freedom of movement. They [the Senators] were not supposed to ask such a decision and I repeated it several times [...] I said that i will be always there to the service of the Justice, if justice needed me, I came freely, now I have a ban on departure, I regret that decision."

The Senator Youri Latortue who chairs the Committee indicated that the hearings will continue this week "...with the hearing of the lawyers who sat at the level of BCEN, and with candidates who responded to our call for testimony. We still have people to hear this week, we expect and hope that Mr Gaillot Dorsinvil and Mr Belzin will have the time to come, so that the Commission hear them, prior that our delay expires"

Answering to a question from a journalist about what will happen if Gaillot Dorsinvil, the President of CEP refuses to appear before the commission, Youri Latortue answered :

"anyway, we got a lot of statements about of President of CEP and other advisers, if he does not appear, the Commission will nevertheless conclude based on what it has received [...] His presence was important for us but also for him [...] we have received many statements who do not go all the time in the direction of Mr. Dorsinvil... I think he should come to make the balance. We can only invite people, we can not force them."

Meanwhile, Jean Thélève Pierre Toussaint, Vice President of CEP has invited Monday to do everything their possible to wash the charges of fraud and electoral corruption brought against them "There are things demeaning who are say on the electoral advisers, it is the duty of those who consider to be victims of unfounded accusations, to take a public position against the facts they are accused" stressing that he had a clear conscience, having not been involved in any act of corruption or electoral fraud...
