Haiti - FLASH : Donald Trump suspends the issuance of several types of visas until 2021

Monday in the White House, President Donald Trump signed a decree on Monday that suspends the issuance of Visas (H-1B, H-2B, H-4, L-1 and J-1), until 2021 and which extends also the suspension of the issuance of Green cards which had been frozen 2 months ago for 60 days, until December 31, 2020.

This decree is part of the recovery of the US economy, the fight against unemployment which jumped 13.3% in May (against 3.5% in February), and the policy of Trump "The America first" aimed at putting jobs first in the hands of Americans, according to a senior official of the American administration at a press conference.

A decree which should block access to the labor market to more than 500,000 foreigners. In particular, the H1B Visa is widely used in the high-tech sector; the H2B Visa is reserved for low-skilled workers (with an exception for the food industry); the Visa J used for student researchers; the L visa used for certain expatriate contracts (inter-company employee transfer) and the H4 Visa which allows the wives of holders of other visas to work in the United States.

In addition, he ordered his administration to think about a reform of H1-B visas so that in 2021, these visas will be allocated to foreigners to whom the highest wages have been promised and no longer by lottery, in order to attract the most gifted in the country.
