Haiti - Agriculture : Minister Sévère wants to develop aquaculture in Haiti

In order to develop aquaculture in Haiti, a delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture, Patrix Sévère recently visited several aquaculturists in the communes of Ganthier and Thomazeau including "Taino Aqua Ferme" a young company which produces tilapia caged in the brackish waters of Lake Azueї ..

Minister Severus wants to draw inspiration from what aquaculturists on this farm are doing to duplicate this technique in other areas of the country including the South Coast.

According to Jean Robert Badio, Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry, "Taino Aqua Ferme" is a model to follow and has everything to become a very large company.

Normally "Taino Aqua Ferme" produces around 50 pounds of fish monthly which are sold on the local market in different forms (whole, packaged in fillet, etc.). The goal is to grow to 70 pounds a month, said Willy Gilbert, one of the founding members of the aquaculture farm.

The Minister Sévère sees in this sector, one of the biggest sources of income of the agricultural sector. For him, it is essential to make the best use of the riches of water plans, stressing that cage production is even more profitable, which is why, he invites other entrepreneurs to follow Taino’s example.

A ministry that is ready to help aquaculture develop in Haiti according to Jean Robert Badio, who plans to finance several training sessions for the benefit of aquaculturists.

In order to strengthen what is done in this sector of activity and to encourage other young people to take an interest in it, the Minister promises to duplicate these experiences at sea level. The Minister's wish is to see all the for country water plans filled with cages dedicated to fish farming..
