Haiti - Agriculture : Signature of 2 cooperation agreements with the Swiss Confederation

On Wednesday July 29, Patrix Sévère the Minister of Agriculture and Fabrizo Porreti, Deputy Resident Director of Humanitarian Aid for Swiss Cooperation in Central America via the Swiss Embassy in Haiti signed two agreements aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector in Haiti.

The first concerns "The Territorial Governance Program of Cocoa and Yam Agroforestry Sectors in the Great South of Haiti" (PROFISUD) which aims to contribute to the strengthening of inclusive governance and to the increase in productivity and profitability of the agroforestry value chains for the benefit of all actors in the agricultural sector.

The second agreement concerns the "Support Program for Inclusive Agricultural Governance in Haiti" (PAGAI) aims to strengthen the participation of women and men from family farms in the governance of the agricultural sector at the local level and improve the economic performance of their farms.

Both programs promise to focus on improving productivity, quality and the targeted agroforestry value chain.

In his intervention Fabrizo Porreti, declared "[...] this choice to support Haitian farmers testifies to Switzerland's willingness to rely on the potential of its partners for endogenous, sustainable, participatory and inclusive development. This priority has been renewed in the intervention strategies that were defined in 2014 and 2018, and the results are satisfactory to say the least, although much remains to be done."

Minister Sévère talks about introducing innovations to traditional know-how through close support and training programs. To achieve this, he promises "I will do everything to ensure that these projects contribute to the strengthening of the agricultural sector" before thanking the Swiss people for their generosity towards the Haitian people.
