On Monday a strong tension reigned at the border of Malpasse. At the origin of this situation, the initiative of several Haitians who decided to remove a Dominican flag hoisted on a pole located in the zone which separates Haiti from the Dominican Republic.

Dominican soldiers from the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) intervened and were greeted by throwing stones and bottles thrown by highly motivated Haitians, who claimed that Haiti had ownership of land up to the Province of Azua.

In order to put an end to these clashes, CESFRONT agents opened fire causing panic and the flight of Haitians.

Assessment of this regrettable incident, at least 2 gunshot wounds among our compatriots according to reported testimonies, unconfirmed assessment from an official source.
