Haiti - Education : 4 million illiterates in Haiti

Tuesday September 8 at the Kinam hotel, within the framework of the 54th International Literacy Day, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Secretaries of State Hervé Saintilus (literacy), Charlot Jacquelin (youth) and several members of the Academy Creole participated in the celebration of the 54th International Literacy Day.

In his intervention, the Head of State took the opportunity to recall the need for each Haitian to learn to read and write to truly participate, with all his abilities, in the development of his country, in the development of his community.

Moïse stressed that the Creole language is an important tool that unites all the children of the country and called on the institutions concerned to continue to make even greater efforts "to ensure that 4 million illiterates in Haiti become literate."

The Head of State also asked the Secretary of State for Literacy to make all the arrangements as soon as possible, so that the literacy campaign can be carried out in 10 departments of the country instead of 4 departments like this is currently being done. To this end, he asked Secretary Saintilus to present a budget that will allow, during the fiscal year 2020-2021, to distribute the resources available for a national literacy campaign ...
