Haiti - Politic : Jovenel Moïse wishes to meet the opposition

Earlier this week Kelly Craft, the United States Ambassador to the UN told the Security Council that President Jovenel Moïse is due to meet with opposition political parties within days.

While the hallway rumors point to a possible meeting next weekend, nothing has filtered out on which opposition parties would be concerned or on the issues that will be discussed around this dialogue table.

However, reacting to Kelly Craft's announcement, Me André Michel, spokesperson for the opposition. Radical of the so-called "Democratic and Popular" movement declared "there are no negotiations going on between the opposition and the Power. The Democratic and Popular Sector rejects any possibility of Cohabitation with Jovenel Moise, PHTK and allies."

On Wednesday, several other opposition actors, in a note echoed the same point, asserting that there were no negotiations underway between the government and the opposition political parties who signed the note where it is writes "These parties believe that no lasting solution can be found without the effective participation of the democrats who have led for many years the fight for the respect of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic including with regard to the constitutional deadline of February 7, 2021, which marks the end of the President's mandate." Concluding" The chaotic situation created by bad governance and the dictatorial excesses of the current government mean that any maneuver aimed at excluding the major actors of the political class and of civil society from the search for a lasting solution is doomed to failure [...]"

Signatories and political parties of the opposition: Edmonde Supplice Beauzile PFSDH (FUSION), Youri Latortue (AAA), Paul Denis (INIFÒS), Nenel Cassy (SDP), Edgard Leblanc Fils (OPL), Génard Joseph (VERITE), Kenel Mathieu (Veye Yo), Sorel Jacinthe (INITE).
