Haiti - Airport incident : «The investigation continues» but does not advance...

Following the scandalous incident Sunday, June 5, 2011, which occurred at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3109-haiti-insecurity-sunday-incident-at-the-toussaint-louverture-international-airport.html an investigation had been opened by the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah).

Since June 5, the Minustah has not issued statement on this case, informing only by the voice of one of its spokespersons, that the preliminary investigation was continuing and that no decisions had been taken to date...

On June 10, a letter from the commander of the Brazilian Battalion, Kladson Taumaturgo Farias, who presides the Commission of Inquiry has been sent to the customs authorities in order to obtain the names and employee numbers of customs officials who were present during the incident. The Brazilian commander precise in his letter, that such information is necessary to call these officials to testify before the Commission of Inquiry.

The customs authorities do not understand that the Minustah, which necessarily know, the military returned to Haiti on June 5 and those who participated in this incident is not able to make advance the investigation more quickly. According to a source of the Minustah the customs authorities have confirmed their willingness to collaborate...

However, this willingness to cooperate on the part of customs, seem rather limited ... According to relatives of the authorities, the Customs would have allowed its agents to provide only public information and would refuse, for unknown reasons, to provide to the Minustah the names and numbers of the officers present at the time of the incident. In addition, the same source informs us that no agent is authorized to appear before a Military Commission of Inquiry.
