Haiti - Diplomacy : Haiti takes a stand in the border conflict in Morocco

In a diplomatic note "[...] the Government of the Republic of Haiti warmly salutes His Majesty King Mohamed VI and the Moroccan people on the occasion of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the independence of the Kingdom of Morocco" and takes a stand in the border conflict with Mauritania

"[...] The Republic of Haiti is following with great attention the situation which prevails in El Guerguerat [Province of Aousserd, in the region Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab in the extreme South-West of Western Sahara of Morocco] on its border with Mauritania and provides support to the Kingdom of Morocco for the respect of its territorial integrity and its sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara.

It welcomes with satisfaction the [peaceful] intervention of the Moroccan Government with a view to putting an end to the chaotic situation caused by the presence of the Polisario militias [political and armed movement of Western Sahara] in El Guerguerat.

In this regard, the Haitian Government reaffirms its full support for the efforts of the Moroccan Government in the search for a political solution to this border dispute in accordance with the autonomy initiative presented to the United Nations in 2007."
