Haiti - Agriculture : Promises of Minister Sévère to the farmers of Môle Saint-Nicolas

Patrix Sévère, Minister of Agriculture accompanied by Charles Jodany, Head of the Communal Agricultural Office (BAC), met Wednesday in Môle Saint Nicolas, officials of fishermen's associations and farmers.

During this meeting he discussed with his interlocutors the difficulties of fishermen and farmers of Môle Saint-Nicolas.

The fishermen insisted on the need for 35-foot keeled boats, freezers and cold rooms for the conservation of their catch. As for the farmers, they raised the problem of access to quality seeds for the agricultural campaigns, the absence of tractors to plow the land and of pumps for watering.

Minister Sévère promised to meet the needs of fishermen by providing them with adequate equipment for fishing : fish concentration device, boats, freezers and training courses declaring "We are going to reorganize fishing activities and help fishermen to better manage boats. Emphasis will also be placed on the marketing aspect."

Regarding farmers, Patrix Sévère is committed to looking into the situation of the BAC, which is not in a position to effectively support farmers. He promised to house the BAC in a larger and more functional space, to store among other things seeds and pumps for watering which will be made available to farmers.
