Haiti - Airport incident : The investigation does not advance...

Yesterday, Sylvie van den Wildenberg, Spokeswoman of the Minustah has provided an update on the investigation of the incident of June 5, 2011, occurred at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3109-haiti-insecurity-sunday-incident-at-the-toussaint-louverture-international-airport.html According to the explanations, the investigation does not advance because of the lack of cooperation, without that we know who does not cooperate, nor why.

"The incident is still under investigation, the investigation is not over yet .[...] In general, we do not communicate on an investigation while it is underway. I can not tell you when it will be finalized. It is stalled a bit at the moment. For an investigation forward, we need the contribution of all parties concerned and for the moment, Some people do not seem ready to cooperate fully with investigators and it is a pity... We hope that all this will be resolved shortly. We work closely with the Haitian authorities in this matter. [...] The United Nations has a zero tolerance policy for any serious breach of the Code of Conduct of its staff, in case of misconduct proven tough measures will be taken.

It is also important to know that the United Nations, as an institution and the Minustah, for example, do not have judicial power. That is to say, we can take a certain number of disciplinary sanctions, if an investigation found evidence that one or more staff members has/have made a serious mistake [...] by cons, regarding the criminal prosecution these are exclusively the responsibility of the states of origin of the staff member concerned, whether civilian or military. This means, in short, it is for the Government of the country where the person is from to transfer the latter before the national courts [...]

To return to our investigation, it continues..." concluded the Spokeswoman.
