On Monday, December 28, Nicaraguan soldiers arrested 23 people (16 adults and 7 minors) of Haitian origin in an irregular migratory situation, military authorities reported.

According to the military, Haitians entered Nicaragua illegally by land from Costa Rica with the intention of joining the United States.

Haitians in Nicaraguan territory traveled in a minibus with a Managua license plate.

Nicaraguan driver William José Pulido Ramírez was arrested and the mini bus seized. The 23 Haitians were handed over to the General Directorate of Migration pending their deportation to Haiti.
