Haiti - Social : Shipwreck between Gonave and Arcahaie, 11 rescued, 7 missing

Yesterday Tuesday, a boat making the trip between the island of Gonave and Arcahaie has made shipwreck. According to Nadia Lochard of the Haitian civil protection, the heavy wind and high waves are responsible for the capsizing of the boat after it left the island.

The boat was carrying 23 people, bags of charcoal, bananas and other goods to Arcahaie, a town located about 50 km northwest of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Arsene Charmant-Saint-Jean, Inspector of the Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) reported that "early research have helped save 11 people, five bodies were recovered on the shore" adding that "an 8 year old boy survived the wreck using a bag of charcoal to reach the coast, while his mother has lost the life in this tragedy."

"There are few chances to find the [7] missing" indicated a person in charge of the coastguards of Haiti.
