Haiti - Politic : Former President a.i. Jocelerme Privert attacked

Wednesday, February 3 in the afternoon, the former President ai Jocelerme Privert, was the object of verbal aggression by a few dozen individuals identifying themselves as opposition activists, very motivated while leaving the premises of radio Kiskeya where he had just presented his condolences to Liliane Pierre Paul whose husband Anthony Barbier died on the evening of January 29 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32902-haiti-obituarydeath-of-sociologist-anthony-barbier.html .

The highly motivated activists damaged Jocelerme Privert's private vehicle with stones and sticks, tearing off the vehicle's plates, accusing the former President ai of having organized the elections which allowed Jovenel Moïse to come to power.

Privert was able to leave radio Kiskeya thanks to the intervention of agents of the General Security Unit of the National Palace (USGPN) who had to use tear gas to disperse the very angry and threatening demonstrators and allow Jocelerme Privert to leave the premises safe and sound.

Reactions :

Jocelerme Privert :

"I condemn the verbal assault of which I was the object as well as the attacks against my private vehicle by individuals this Wednesday, on the occasion of my condolence visit to Liliane Pierre Paul whose husband Anthony Barbier, my friend and collaborator has left for the afterlife."

President Jovenel Moïse :

"I vehemently condemn the violent attack on former President Jocelerme Privert in the Gardens of Radio Kiskeya. This crime committed by individuals who want to create a climate of terror in the country constitutes a serious attack on democracy."

Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe :

"My Government strongly condemns the act of aggression perpetrated this Wednesday against the former President Jocelerme Privert. These anti-democratic, intolerant and violent behaviors are contrary to the rule of law and to living together for which we must all work."

Former Deputy for Delmas Gary Bodeau :

"I condemn, with the utmost rigor, the aggression against former President Jocelerme Privert outside the radio Kiskeya premises and in circumstances not yet clarified. Mr. Privert is a Haitian who, like any citizen, must be able to go about his business normally."

Ex Minister of Communication Rudy Hériveaux :

"We strongly condemn the verbal and other attacks of which former President Privert was the target. We all have a duty to consolidate democratic gains and create a climate conducive to harmony and living together among all Haitians. The flag of Haiti LI LÈ POU SA FÈT."
