Haiti - Health : Training of 265 members of the National Ambulance Center

As part of the CERF-UEF project of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), 265 members of the National Ambulance Center (CAN: 85 nurses, 88 rescuers and 95 drivers from the Ministry of Health were trained (in 2020 and 2021) in the management of obstetric emergencies.

Divided into three groups, nurses from the departments of West, Nippes, Grand-Anse, South, North-West, North and North-East followed three days of theoretical and practical training while the Rescuers and drivers from the above-mentioned departments followed two days of training which will enable them to improve the care of pregnant women in CAN ambulances.

Recall that statistics from the National Ambulance Center reveal that more than 35% of CAN transfers are dedicated to obstetric emergencies (hemorrhages and eclampsia) even during the Covidd-19 pandemic. Also, the continuous training of ambulance staff is a priority for the Ministry of Public Health, which on this occasion requested technical and financial support from PAHO / WHO. https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-33178-icihaiti-health-review-of-the-national-ambulance-center-feb-2021.html

The management of obstetric emergencies in pre-hospital settings is a component of the MSPP's policy to reduce maternal mortality in Haiti.
