In a letter addressed to the Minister of Communication Pradel Henriquez, Marc Pierre-Louis Treasurer of the Tourist Association of Haiti (ATH) Wilhelm Lemke, President of the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), Laurent Saint-Cyr, President of the West Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIO) and Jean-Philippe Boisson, President of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham - Haiti), four Associations of the private business sector, after having acknowledged and also their members of the preliminary draft of a new Constitution which has been submitted to them, after information sessions and informed debates by experts in law and constitutional law, informs the Minister of the position that their members wish them to adopt.

Extract from the letter addressed to Minister Henriquez :

"[...] At the end of this consultation of our members, and in the concern to respect the wishes thus translated, the Associations signatory of the present, while recognizing the need and the merits of a constitutional reform, express with force their reservations about the process chosen, which should be carried out within the framework of the prescriptions of the current mother law, or, within the framework of a broad political agreement in order to guarantee an inclusive, consensual and transparent process.

In addition, it seems obvious that the deterioration of the insecurity that reigns on the national territory and the current state of health emergency relating to the Covid-19 pandemic only worsen a climate already unsuited to a reaction on a subject as important for the future of the Nation. Today, it is indisputable that the population lives in fear and terror whether in Cap-Haitien, Petit-Goâve passing by Martissant, Croix des Bouquets and Laboule.

Consequently, the signatory Associations ask the Government to postpone the constitutional referendum project to guarantee inclusive and participatory consultation.

While reiterating their wish to see the establishment of a serene climate and a frank dialogue within Haitian society, the Signatory Associations hereof take the opportunity to assure you of their availability in order to contribute to the advancement of Haiti.
