Haiti - Education : Actions to improve the governance of schools in the West Department

Following the various decisions already taken by the Ministry of National Education, the Departmental Direction of Education of the West (DDE-O), is undertaking a series of actions to improve the governance of schools in the department.

Control and information grids on schools, chairs in high schools, school furniture and infrastructure, through information sheets on administrative staff, preschool, primary and secondary teachers, a whole lot set of tools have been developed for the collection of information on the functioning of schools in the Republic, in particular public schools, by the DDE-O.

Jean Ernest Clergé, the Departmental Director, intends to put some order in the governance of public schools in order to achieve an improvement in the quality of education. Thus, many schools have already been visited as part of brigade inspection and supervision tours.

Questions relating to subcontracting in high schools, absenteeism in the classroom, compliance with fees set by the state are, among others, important decisions on which special emphasis is also placed

However, given the difficulties of access to certain areas of the Department of the West, the Clergy Director said he was unable to specify for the moment a deadline for this work which aims to put order in the system.
