Haiti - Politic : Military action against Haiti, denial of the Dominican Rep.

"Political elements, pro-Haitian national groups, international organizations, anti-Dominican activists and Haitian sectors, supported by NGOs and pro-immigrant organizations, have disseminated false information according to which in the face of the crisis in Haiti, the goal of the Dominican Government is to promote and/or participate in military action in Haiti...

"The Dominican Government formally denies this information and affirms that it has never considered or discussed the possibility of intervening and/or participating in a possible military occupation force in Haiti. On the contrary, the Dominican Government is intensifying its diplomatic offensive in an attempt to obtain action from the international community to help resolve Haiti's political, institutional, economic and social problems.

"Contrary to a misinterpretation in this regard, President Luis Abinader's insistence has been that the international community, led by the United States, France and Canada, must act with massive economic, technical and professional assistance to ensure that Haiti can overcome the institutional, social and economic problems that seriously affect them.

Military sources indicate that the troops stationed at the border and the intelligence actions that are deployed around the daily development of the Haitian crisis, aim to maintain the measures to protect the Dominican territory, never with offensive plans emphasizing that it on the contrary, it is a question of dissuasive and preventive actions.

"It is in this sense that the Abinader Government reiterates that the massive military presence along the border between the two Nations, obeys the obligation to guarantee the security of the Dominican territory and never to be a force of aggression and even less armed intervention.
