Haiti - Health : Minister Larsen «takes stock» of the flu and the Covid

Thursday January 6, 2022, at a press conference, Alex Larsen the Minister of Public Health (MSPP), accompanied by his Director General Dr Lauré Adrien and some senior executives took stock of the rise in fever and flu cases as well as new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.

Minister Larsen, concerning fever and influenza, recalled that Haiti was facing a seasonal flu.

Regarding the significant increase of 411 cases between December 26 and January 4, Larsen reiterated that the Ministry was awaiting the results of the analysis of samples in progress in partner laboratories abroad (genomic sequencing) before confirming or no the presence of the ultracontagious variant Omicron on the national territory

In the meantime, the Minister continues to ask the population to respect barrier gestures (wearing a mask, washing hands regularly, distance between people) and to be vaccinated to fight the coronavirus.

Speaking of vaccination 74,687 Haitians are fully vaccinated (2 doses, 0.64% of the population). Update 25 December 2021 latest information available (source MSPP)
