Médecins sans Frontière (MSF) has officially inaugurated yesterday Thursday in Delmas 33, the Center of Reference in Obstetric Emergencies (Centre de Référence en Urgences Obstétricales - CRUO), specializing in the management of obstetric emergencies, in the presence among others of : Dr. Alex Larsen, Minister of Health of Haiti and the Deputy Arnel Bélizaire (Delmas/Tabarre) and some sesponsible of MSF Holland.

Built at a cost of $ 5 million, close to the Henfrasa, the hospital must work in partnership with the hospital "Peace" of Delmas 33, said MSF.

The CRUO has a friendly and qualified staff, composed of a majority of Haitians, supervised by MSF expatriates. It includes triage services, of delivery, one laboratory of analysis, a room of pathology, a mental health room, a room postnatal physiology, a blood bank, a pharmacy and all the equipment to respond to emergencies.

Operating day and night since March 8, 2011, 1.726 women have given birth reported Sylvain Grou, Chief of Mission of MSF, adding that the demand is steadily rising and that during the first two weeks of August, 380 births had already been made.

According to Dr. Hans Boucher, Medical Director of Haiti, MSF, this initiative aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality in Haiti. "...we take care only of women who will deliver a baby and who have complications [...] we know that in Haiti the maternal mortality rate is very high, so the role of this project is to address the complications among women who will give birth to try to reduce the maternal mortality. We have 122 beds in rooms of 6 beds. All is free since admission, there is no hospital charge, women pay nothing. At MSF, we have a code of ethics and we take into account the quality of care we give to patients, the rooms are airy our qualified staff is available 24/7..."

The Minister Alex Larsen thanked MSF for the quality of care that its staff provides to the Haitians, regretting, however, that despite the efforts of the Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), the hospital "La Paix" [partner of CRUO] unfortunately fails to expected results because of the high rate of absenteeism at the level of its staff.

Philippe Albert Philius, representative of the Town Hall of Delmas, has for his part, focused on "the excellent cooperation between the local authorities and the foreignerswho bring their share to the Haiti's health system."
