Haiti - Health : Diaspora professionals are involved in health development in Haiti

The National University Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), in collaboration with the World Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) join forces in a health capacity development program in Haiti, in support of the NGO "Partners In Health" founded by the late and renowned Dr. Paul Farmer https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36017-haiti-flash-dr-paul-farmer-co-founder-of-zanmi-lasante-died.html and its university hospital in Mirebalais.

In response to a funding opportunity presented by the SCCM specifically to support Haiti in need, identified in the aftermath of the 2021 earthquake https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes-updated-10am.html the program is under development.

The SCCM has requested the support of Dr. Amado Alejandro Báez, specialist in emergencies and critical medicine and intensive therapy, expert in humanitarian cooperation issues.

The project aims to advance the vision of President Luis Abinader, presented in January 2021 and part of the bilateral agreement in point #2 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32758-haiti-flash-9-joint-commitments-between-haiti-and-the-dominican-republic.html , to offer solutions to health problems in Haiti with the support of international organizations and non-governmental organizations.

"What is interesting about this project is that it uses doctors from the Haitian medical diaspora based in the Dominican Republic and the United States, thus giving Haitians effective solutions for Haiti," pointed out Dr. Báez.
