Haiti - Health : Up to 4 border hospitals could be built in Haiti

Dr. Amado Alejandro Báez, emergency and critical medicine specialist and Public Health Advisor to the Executive Branch, said he has had meetings over the past week with members of the United States Congress and NGOs who operate in Haiti and that together they have been working for a year on solutions for the construction of 2 to 4 hospitals in Haiti on the border area that can benefit both countries.

Amado Alejandro Báez, clarified that these hospitals will not be built with Dominican resources or from the Dominican side in order to have a positive impact for both countries "We must understand that it is not us who deliver resources or Dominican talents in Haiti. There is a desire from the international community to bring economic solutions to Haiti, and the Dominican Republic is in the best possible position to work on solutions that will have a positive impact on the health of Haitians”.

He added that they have mapped, among other things, points at border crossings, such as north of Ouanaminthe and south of Fond Parisien for construction.

He highlighted an important element of this project "[...] in the Dominican Republic, there are hundreds of Haitians who are studying medicine or who are doctors. What they are not Haitians who cross illegally into Dominican territory, they are highly educated citizens [...] This project that we want to work on at the border has a human challenge, and we are strongly studying the possibilities of integrating the Haitian diaspora educated in the project to work on solutions in their country."
