Haiti - FLASH : One of the suspects in the assassination of President Moïse pleads not guilty before a federal court

On Wednesday, July 7, 2022, one of the suspects in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Rodolphe Jaar (49) a Haitian-Chilean, pleaded not guilty to both criminal charges in federal court in Miami : conspiracy charges in sight committing murder or kidnapping outside the United States and providing material support resulting in death. If convicted, Jaar faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

A year after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Miami Federal Judge Chris M. McAliley accepted Jaar's plea of innocence and his request for a jury trial, which has a tentative start date of July 18.

During the hearing, which lasted less than 5 minutes, it was his lawyer, Frank Schwartz of the Public Defender's Office, who spoke on his behalf, telling the magistrate that he expected the prosecution to present all the evidence in this case.

Let's recall that Jaar was arrested in the Dominican Republic on January 7, 2022, at the request of the American authorities (FBI) on the basis of statements by Mario Antonio Palacios https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35640-haiti-flash-palacio-extradited-to-the-usa-first-official-indictment-in-the-assassination-of-president-moise.html . According to US authorities, Jaar voluntarily agreed to be transferred to Miami for trial.

Rodophe Jaar is the 2nd suspect to plead not guilty in federal court after former Colombian military Mario Palacios https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36347-haiti-flash-former-colombian-soldier-mario-antonio-palacios-pleads-not-guilty-in-the-usa.html

A 3rd suspect is in the hands of American justice, it is the former Haitian senator John Joel Joseph https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36629-haiti-justice-assassination-president-a-third-suspect-appeared-in-federal-court.html accused of having rented in Haiti four vehicles which were used by the Colombian commandos the night of the attack on President Moïse. The former Senator stressed that Jovenel Moïse should be captured and not assassinated. Known information, but once again revealed by investigators from the FBI and US Homeland Security. He allegedly confessed to the FBI that his goal was to become Prime Minister of Moïse's successor after the latter's dismissal, which is consistent with the investigation in Haiti.
