UN : Guterres wants to act very quickly in Haiti

Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General urges the international community, including members of the Security Council, to urgently consider the Haitian government's request to immediately deploy a specialized international armed force to deal with the humanitarian crisis, including ensuring the free movement of water, fuel, food and medical supplies from major ports and airports to communities and health care facilities. Guterres submitted a letter to the Security Council on Sunday containing options for enhanced security support to Haiti, as requested by the Council. In particular, he proposed that one or more countries send "a rapid action force" to help Haitian police eliminate the threat posed by armed gangs, according to a letter to the UN Security Council, seen by the Reuters Agency.
