Haiti - Economy : Haiti in the TOP 10 «tax hells» and last in the Caribbean

The first edition of the 2022 "tax hells" index, from the 1841 Foundation, which analyzes 94 economies, places Haiti in 9th position in the TOP 10 and last in the Caribbean.

The index was produced on the basis of an in-depth examination of qualitative and quantitative data published annually by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. It takes into account quantitative data, such as fiscal and inflationary pressure, debt and qualitative indicators, such as political stability and the effectiveness of the state.

Among the "tax hells" there are countries with low and high taxes, but, according to the report, "all of them have poor quality governments, high corruption and lack of transparency, poor economic management and weak institutions [...]"

The first edition of this index, prepared by the 1841 Foundation, places 12 countries, including 8 Latin Americans, in the "tax hell" category, out of a total of 94 countries included in the ranking, mainly from America and Europe.

Venezuela and Argentina obtained the 2nd and 3rd place in the ranking of countries with the highest budgetary pressure. The worst "tax hell" in the world, according to the foundation, is Belarus.

The podium of the worst tax hells are #1 Belarus, #2 Venezuela, and #3 Venezuela

The study identifies 14 other countries at risk of becoming "tax hells" and finally a large group of normal countries among which Chile emerges as the best placed country in Latin America with a score of 3.60 out of 10. (More the score is low and the better the country). The Dominican Republic classified in the normal economy has a score of 6 out of 10 and ranks 9th in the Caribbean, Haiti in the "fiscal hell" category ranks last in the Caribbean just ahead of Suriname...
