Haiti - UN : Security Council sanctions soon in force, military intervention still under discussion

Thursday at a press briefing in New York Ulrika Richardson, UN Resident Coordinator questioned by the media on the sanctions envisaged by the Security Council affirmed that they will be in force by January 2023.

These global sanctions "will target all actors involved in all activities and actions threatening peace, security or stability in Haiti, and will not be limited to a single person or criminal group in particula," specifies the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti on its official website.

According to the unofficial information circulating, it would be a list of several hundred people...

There was also talk of the possible armed rapid intervention force in Haiti and when that will happen, Ulrika Richardson replied that the UN was still discussing a possible international intervention in Haiti "[...] Citizens are confronted daily to violence in Port-au-Prince. This situation cannot continue. I think there's a sense of urgency, and a lot of actors share that feeling. But it's delicate [...]" adding "most countries remain skeptical about a military intervention in Haiti..."
