Haiti - Easter : Despite the insecurity thousands of Haitians made the Way of the Cross

Good Friday April 7, 2023, despite the omnipresent insecurity, several thousand Catholics made the traditional Way of the Cross both in Port-au-Prince and in several provincial towns, praying for the sick, for peace in Haiti and for the most destitute, all the way.

The Way of the Cross is a ritual that Catholics do not negotiate and in which they try to participate every year despite a climate of insecurity marked by the multiplication of kidnappings, armed attacks by gangs, robberies, rapes and assassinations. However, this year in the capital, if the fervor was still there, the assistance had decreased a lot compared to last year...

Religious songs were sung during the journey in the streets of Port-au-Prince, asking among other things to Christ to help in times of great trial.

In Port-au-Prince, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) ensured the security of the pilgrimage along the road from Christ the King to the Champs de Mars which brought together Catholics from different parishes in the metropolitan area.

At the end of this event, the officials welcomed the celebration which took place without incident "All we ask for is peace. We have to put an end to arms [...]" declared one of the participating priests.
