Haiti - Crisis : «The country is dangling over an abyss» dixit Volker Türk

On Wednesday April 3, 2023, during a videoconference before the UN Security Council, Volker Türk the High Commissioner for Human Rights declared "I visited the country in February. It is dangling over an abyss. [...] The State's lack of capacity to fulfill human rights has completely eroded people's confidence. The social contract has collapsed," calling for immediate support

"The current lawlessness is a human rights emergency that calls for a robust response [...] There is an immediate need to support Haiti's institutions by deploying a time-bound, specialized and human rights-compliant support force, with a comprehensive action plan," says Türk.

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the UN relayed for the first time in October 2022 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37831-haiti-flash-towards-a-foreign-armed-intervention-in-haiti-to-eliminate-gangs.html Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry's plea for help, asking the Security Council to send a rapid intervention force, but to no avail.

Although several countries have declared themselves ready to participate in this intervention force, neither the USA nor Canada seems to want to take the lead in operations and assume their responsibilities...
